I had so much fun in Sue Spargo’s class! The whole trip was wonderful. An interesting book on tape for the 5.5 hour trip down, the weather perfect, the hotel surprisingly nice (Motel 6…ya never know). Below is my sampler from the class as of last night, I’ve done some more on it since.

Learned stitches, a few tips and soaked up as much as I could.

Finished the Bullion stitches around this last night.

Silly little Drizzle stitches

A velvet leaf with chenille thread stitching and a wool leaf on top. Wool circle and two blue Bullion stitches. That velvet was not cooperative…at all. A wiggly fabric for sure.

A few quilts I noticed the next day during the show.

What a nice town.

At one point, after crossing a street, I came into the shade to find a bubbling creek. I stopped it was so pretty and then noticed the voices accompanying an acoustic guitar (love acoustic guitar sound!) People were walking all over the place and there was the soft murmur of contented women. It was a perfect moment so I just closed my eyes and listened for awhile. Like I said, I had a wonderful time.

She sewed her tree trunk on with varigated thread, it looks really good. Not so easy to capture on camera.

It’s sunny and windy here, picked strawberries yesterday. Yum. I’m letting go of my website soon but you’ll still be able to find me here. Not very often I’m afraid. That’s okay.

I’ve been doing things that don’t belong on this blog. Cleaning bathroom drawers, painting a bedroom, etc. Buggy Barn Folk Art & Quilt Show is coming up in August and not one piece of art has been created for it. I think I may be collaged out. So there’s the reason/excuse.

The sewing I have been doing is mainly clothes. Linen clothes and altering clothes. I try for an Anthropologie look when altering but end up too much like Grandma frou frou, still working on that. Hope to get the hang of it someday.

This linen quilt I began, I think, two retreats ago. There’s not much on it yet but I hope to cover the center linen with all sorts of applique. The border is a French General linen/cotton. Many of the fabrics lean towards Japanese taupes, greys, etc. So maybe this could be tentatively called The French General Goes To Japan.

The basket and leaf things are from a Barbara Brackman book. 6″ Dresden with a 3″ Lemoyne star and another Dresden without a center.

Some Joel Dewberry half yards…sh-h-h

Fold a piece of music over them to hide the gift, bright white tissue paper wasn’t going to work here.

And then someone gave me this fat eighth pack. Figured I could make a small quilt top from it, why not the binding too? While I’m at it, if the goal is to buy the least amount possible why not make it stretch to cover the back as well?

So here’s the plan, the fat eighths and 2 yards of fine muslin. It should work. I’ve wanted to try making these blocks for awhile now.

And this little girl came into the shop, oh my, was she adorable in her Grandmothers Flower Garden jacket!

On a side note, Rosalie Dace (brilliant gal from South Africa) is teaching a 5 day class at the Fabric Patch (where I play, I mean work) She teaches on art quilts, this time focusing on circles. What a wonderful teacher, so knowledgeable and willing to share everything she knows. The students works are fascinating. I’ve been getting back to the classroom as much as I can. Should have taken the class, if you ever get a chance take her class! You won’t regret it.

18″ x 8″ Linen, tatting, spool papers, old hand written letter, reform initials. Machine pieced .5″ squares, hand quilted, cotton. Haven’t found many decent frames lately, haven’t looked much either though.

Hopefully they had a good time spending the day together. Maybe they shopped for fabric? Who knows. But I’d bet they would never have guessed where this photo would end up!
