Friday Find #30

Actually found this at the Coburg Quilt Show, Diane from Tater Patch Quilts showed me. But what prompted that was a gal brought in some miniatures to their shop for them to show me. It’s a book by Penny Haren, a brilliant gal for sure. The book, Pieced Applique, has blown open the door to many more quilt blocks for me. I’ve pretty much stuck with blocks that only require squares, rectangles and triangles. And I remember using this concept a little on the few Dear Jane blocks I did, but it never clicked in my brain to use it on miniatures. Below is a block which shows the first part of her technique, don’t know if this one is in her books (only glanced at one).cross1  Then she adds applique to create complicated blocks in simple ways. You can see an example on the front of her book. If you don’t like reading instructions, the pictures describe the technique very well. Great book.

Aren’t they cuties? You’ll see much more when I have a chance to play. Have a fantastic weekend!

Coburg rocks!

Went to Coburg, Oregon this weekend for their 5th Annual Quilt Show “Quilt Your Wagons” Oh my, what a wonderful weekend! There was a horse drawn carriage (hard to see with all the people in the way)

The fact that it was such a beautiful porch with a luscious yard didn’t hurt. We rocked in the chairs, sipped our cool drinks and visited. Just one of those perfect times, peaceful and comfortable punctuated with thought provoking conversations and gut wrenching laughter. I left feeling refreshed. You have to come next year if you can possibly make it! I’ll give you a heads up and it’ll be on my Upcoming page on my Galloping Pony website. Ah-h-h. Happy Monday to you.

{added note: some of the photos seem to be acting up but I’ll leave them just in case you can see them. Sorry ’bout that, I don’t know why it’s happening}

Have you seen Wordle? I tried to play with it but couldn’t due to my inept computer inability. I tried to add the words from this piece:593web

2″ star with…

I loved

Here’s a few wordles below, looks fun, huh? You supply the words and I don’t know what other control you have ‘cuz I don’t have Applet tags and don’t want to install a Java something or other. Hm-m, that’d be a different wedding invitation or birth announcement, huh? Or a family tree…they say you can use any of the wordles (and there are many) for any purpose. Everybody’s name on T-shirts for the next family reunion. Yep, this could be fun.

Have no idea why I put a chair on this one, it just seemed like the right thing to do. And the words? Same thing. Maybe that’s what they call intuitive creating. Happy Monday all.

Friday Find #28

Good morning. Just a few minutes ago I remembered it was Friday and I should post. So that’s what I’m claiming to have found today…my brain. E-gads.

I finished that piece from last Friday’s Find. Decided against the 1/4″ squares as I wanted to get right to the collage and not sew at that time. Used a whole song with this one.

I hope you have a nice weekend. I can’t believe it’s Friday already again!

Never seek to tell thy love

Good Morning. This little piece is similar to the one from this post, different block but same set up. Blocks are cuter I think, same size though, 1″. 578web

LOVE”S SECRET
Never seek to tell thy love,
Love that never told can be;
For the gentle wind doth move
Silently, invisibly.
I told my love,
I told my love,
I told her all my heart,
Trembling, cold, in ghastly fears:
Ah! she did depart.
Soon after she was gone from me
A traveller came by,
Silently, invisibly:
He took her with a sigh.
pub. 1804

Don’t know where the piece is at this moment so don’t know who this is by. Probably from my British Poetry and Prose book. Now I’m off to make relish (not so fun but love the relish) and then five  little 2.5″ baskets need to be cut and sewn (that’s fun).

Hope you get to sew today. Happy Monday.

Attendance…Friday Find

This little attendance card is destined to be added to a little art piece today. From the 2nd quarter of 1890.attendanceAren’t the letters beautiful? I have a Dresden for this but maybe I need to do some 1/4″ squares. Have to think on that.attendance2Have a great weekend.
